One of our aims is to eventually gain K.C. recognition for our dogs as a breed in their own right, however at our last application the K.C. asked that we submit a new joint Inuit Dog Association and Northern Inuit Society application in five years time. They also implied that the dissension and controversy surrounding the breed did not bode well for the future. However there are some who do not want K.C. recognition for the breed. We respect their opinion but one of TIDA's aims was always seek this to gain world wide status for our dogs. We shall continue to do so.
However we do feel that in the present climate this will never happen anytime soon due to the fact that the name itself has been under attack and derided on many Internet sites of which the K.C. and general public are quite aware. Also the records need to be fully traceable, together with a photographic record of all dogs registered which is a prerequisite for recognition by the kennel club. We also are quite concerned that some Northern Inuit dogs are now being crossed with high wolf content wolf dogs and advertised as such..
The Independent Dog Association its origins and History

The Association was originally formed in October 2006 under the name The Inuit Dog Association or as it is generally known TIDA. TIDA was originally set up to improve the Northern Inuit dog. In the beginning it was decided not to change the name of the dog but to drop the word ‘Northern’ from the association to distinguish ourselves from other organisations and to refer to our dogs as Inuit Dogs. However it was always the intention of the founders of TIDA to remove it as far away as possible from any connection to the Inuit people and after speaking to a member of the Inuit peoples Council in April 2009  it was decided in deference to them to rename the association as The Independent Dog Association. Still retaining the name T.I.D.A. but being wholly independent of all other organisations

TIDA was originally founded to eventually include all wolf look alike dogs who descend from the original dogs, We see it as an umbrella under which the owners of these dogs will now be able to join together, as members, if they so wish, as part of  the Association while still retaining their original registration within their breed groups. And where any breeders from any group who wish to do so may help each other to create a strong and viable future for our dogs.
Over the years there has been so much dissension, argument and bad feeling within the various splinter groups who breed these dogs. It is felt that this only weakens the breed as a whole and has been detrimental to their future.
We feel it is in the best interests of all the dogs to try to get all owners and breeders to come together, have a place to show all the dogs and admire, discuss, and plan for their future.
We are not seeking to replace any other organisation, rather we are trying to bring back together those individuals who would like to join forces and improve the health and vitality of all the dogs while still belonging to and registered with their own breed group.

The change of name to The Independent Dog Association was voted on and carried at the committee meeting held at Coventry show on Saturday 13th June 2009.
